What an announcement! If things continue to progress, a familiar orange and white “W” will be adding a pop of color to the Rainbow City. Whataburger in Gadsden would be one more big “w,” as in a win, for the city.
Whataburger’s coming to town
According to reports, Whataburger in Gadsden is one step closer to becoming a reality after a recent city council meeting. The city council is considering an economic development agreement with MWB Restaurants LLC that could result in a Whataburger!
The proposed site for the future Whataburger is at 563 E. Meighan Blvd. Currently, this is a vacant lot between two existing restaurants. The Whataburger in Gadsden would be bordered by Kentucky Fried Chicken and Taco Bell on one side and Captain D’s on the other.
Part of the massive construction project would include infrastructure improvements as well. More specifically, crews would add a left-turn lane and a right-hand deceleration lane to the site.
Overall, the development will open up about seven acres of undeveloped land in an area that continues to grow commercially. The Whataburger build-out is expected to use about an acre of land for its location.
More about Whataburger
Founded in 1950 in Corpus Christi, Texas, Whataburger is now based in San Antonio. The idea behind the popular burger chain is simple. It’s all about serving a burger so big that you can’t help but say, “What a burger!”
Now, there are more than 900 locations in 14 states. Each location serves Whataburger’s 100 percent fresh, never-frozen beef patty on a toasted five-inch bun. But burgers aren’t the only tasty thing on the menu.
The restaurant also serves patty melts, sandwiches, chicken, salads and breakfast. Check out the full menu for a better idea of what to expect.
Like, all Whataburger locations, the one in Gadsden would be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, only closing on Christmas Day.
