More background on the project

According to reports, the new community center has been on the city’s radar since 2011. It all started with a conversation to improve Gadsden’s rec centers.

The original East Gadsden Community Center opened its doors in the 1960s. It become on of the “most used” facilities in the city.

In 2018, ground was broken on the future community center site. Initially, the old building was going to remain open for use during the construction of the new building.

However, with the onset of COVID-19 in March 2020, plans changed. The demolition date for the old building was bumped up while construction on the new site began.

Now, the state-of-the-art community center is fully functional and open to the public!

East Gadsden Community Center, located at 921 Wilson St., is about two miles away from Summer Waters. That means you can hop in your car and be at the community center in about seven minutes.

The new community center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
