Local Spotlight: Humane Society Pet Rescue & Adoption Center

Humane Society Pet Rescue & Adoption Center

October is a special month for many reasons, one of which happens to be its Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. This makes it a good time to spotlight the Humane Society Pet Rescue & Adoption Center in Gadsden.

About HSPRAC

The Humane Society Pet Rescue & Adoption Center has been an important part of the community since its founding in 1973. It’s a nonprofit organization with a mission to serve, protect, adopt, and educate serving both the cities of Gadsden and Attalla.

Services include acting as a center for adoption and providing animal control sheltering services. The center shelters animals brought in by the public, strays, and all animals brought in by animal control officers.

These include those lost and found pets. If you or someone you know lost a beloved pet, be sure to contact the local animal shelters right away. They can check to see if your pet is there, and they can act as a resource. Visit their website for helpful tips on how to find your pet.

It is staffed with a full-time executive director and small staff, but the Humane Society Pet Rescue & Adoption Center depends on the generosity of hundreds of volunteers and donors. Without this community support, the Society would not be able to conduct its educational and community outreach programs.

Dog-Gone That’s Love!

Some of the outreach programs include low-cost spay and neuter programs, bite prevention education, rabies clinic, pet health care education, and educational programs through the local schools and youth programs.

For all those big-hearted animal lovers out there, there are many ways to get involved and show your support for the HSPRAC. First of all, there’s always adoption. If you aren’t sure what pet is right for you, or you can’t commit long-term (but you have love to give), try fostering. It’s rewarding for both the pet and the foster family!

You can also support the Society by donating, attending a fundraising event, or purchasing a sponsorship package. Volunteers who donate time are huge assets that the center is always looking for. You can take the dogs for a walk, play with them, pet them, and so much more.
